Zombie Drink Cozy

I finished the February craft along challenge. I created a zombie flower drink cozy using rececled wool coats and the cuff from a wool sweater. I know the point of this month was to create a coffee cozy to keep your hands warm. I love a good hot chocolate like anyone else, but I'm tired of winter and snow!! We've had ove six feet of snow since January first. I just want to think spring, warm days and unsweetened ice tea. My zombie flower was created with these warm spring thoughts in mind. Maybe now that the first undead flower has bloomed, spring will finally come! Alas, wishful thinking. . . I still need to go shovel the six inches of snow that fell last night.

The Walking Dead....

I started on my cozy, planning to do something out of the feltie book.  But then we got on a The Walking Dead marathon and changed gears!

I had planned on making it a bit more elaborate but having a new puppy in the household sort of eats up all my time!

So here is my project for this month's challenge!!!

Thrilla .....

Well hello hello ladies ...... How have y'all been ?
This little zombie is so cute, I can barely stand it .... he makes me want to run off to Starbucks now, just so that I can put him to use.

I used my tried and trusted Zombie Feltie book :-) This is Thrilla Zombie.

I decided to use wool felt, just because I thought it would be far more durable, and I'd like this little guy to hang around for a while :-)
My template for the mug cosy was a Starbucks wrap. I doubled the thickness of the wool felt, just to be sure it did its job properly, and I added an elastic and button closure :-)

I'm thinking about making some coasters next .... we are desperately in need of some around our house ..... watch this space. Hopefully time will allow :-)

Mini Blanket

I wanted to participate in this month's craft along but I also knew I would be pressed for time. I just started taking a graduate course so that's taking up most of my free time, which means I haven't been crafting much. I decided to knit a small blanket, that would be Barbie sized. I thought that might be cheating so I decided to step it up a notch and create a small Barbie quilt. Here's what I created using some of the material from my scrap drawer.

February's theme!

For all you zombie lovers out there that are tired of Valentine crafts already...

"Cold Hands NO HEART!"

Create a zombie related coffee cozy that you can wrap your cold, dead hands around in order to warm them up.   Needn't be fabric or sewn.  I saw a cute cozy made from a cut off sock!  Or you can create something on top of a cardboard coffee sleeve. 

If a cozy doesn't appeal to you, how about mittens, gloves or other hand warmers and for you over achievers, maybe a mug rug?

The Quilt .....

Whew ..... talk about squeaking in, with not too much time to spare !!!!
I'm here to share this quilt that I made for my daughter .........
Now ..... I loved piecing the top ...... I loved sewing on the binding (that's like therapy to me) ...... BUT I hated doing the machine quilting !!! Too much bulkiness to fit through a little space ..... It drove me nuts !!!!
I'm happy with the result, and so is my daughter :-)

I used nine 16"x16" squares of different fabric. She loves tattoo art, and that was how I chose the center square of fabric. I used 21/2" sashes of black fabric between the rows.

I went for a plain black backing ..... it was the only fabric I could find that was wide enough, and didn't require me to have a joining seam somewhere in it. I love the red binding ..... matches the roses in that center block.
I just quilted it, by sewing 1/2" around the inside of each square, and then again 1/2" around the outside of each square.

Here she is, all wrapped up ...... must be a pretty serious text message she'd just received !!!!
