FAIRY....TALES!!!

First, let me say I am SOOOO excited about March's theme................mushrooms and toadstools - so cute!!!

Here are the fairies I sent to Kim.........I really hope she liked them. They were my 2 favorites out of all the ideas I saw, and I couldn't decide which I liked best - thus there are 2 of them:-) I also thought they could keep each other company in that deep, dark packing box during their journey..........dark places can be quite scary when you're that small!!!!

My fairy house is a WIP, but I will be sharing it as soon as it is done:-)
I am having a blast with this swap - thanks Val for all your hard work, it's very appreciated:-)

" When the winds of March are wakening the crocuses and crickets,
Did you ever find a fairy near some budding little thickets,
And when she sees you creeping up to get a closer peek
She tumbles through the daffodils, a playing hide and seek."

February's Fairy

Here is a pic of the Fairy I made for Jenny for February.

Her name is Blu.  And she stands about 2" tall. With lots of glitter on her wings.

I'll grant you 3 wishes.....

This fairy pillow was given to me BEFORE my kids were born.

A dear friend of my mom' s made it for me. I just adore it. It was never used as a tooth fairy pillow but was on Curly Girl's bed for years....until she barfed on it!
After cleaning it up I put it somewhere out of the danger zone!

Fairy Cake recipe

Picture of Lemon Blossoms Recipe

This is Paula Deen's famous Lemon Blossom cake recipe.....but I call them Fairy Cakes because they are made with a mini muffin tin.

These are AWESOME and easy to make. I thought you'd like to sample them while building your fairy houses!

Ingredients:

18 1/2-ounce package yellow cake mix
3 1/2-ounce package instant lemon pudding mix
4 large eggs
3/4 c veg. oil

4 c. powdered sugar, sifted
1/3 c fresh lemon juice
the zest of 1 lemon
3 Tbls veg. oil
3 Tbls. water

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Spray miniature muffin tins with vegetable oil cooking spray. Combine the cake mix, pudding mix, eggs and oil and blend well with an electric mixer until smooth, about 2 minutes.

Fill each muffin tin half way. Bake for 12 minutes. Turn out onto a tea towel.

To make the glaze, sift the sugar into a mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice, zest, oil, and water. Mix with a spoon until smooth.

Dip the cupcakes into the glaze while they're still warm, covering as much of the cake as possible. I do this by sticking a fork in the bottom of the cupcake and dipping it into the glaze....or I just put them into the glaze a few at a time, turning them to completely coat.

Place on wire racks with waxed paper underneath to catch any drips. Let the glaze set thoroughly, about 1 hour, before storing in containers with tight-fitting lids.

"Buttercups in the sunshine look like little cups of gold.
Perhaps the Faeries come to drink the raindrops that they hold."
~Elizabeth T. Dillingham, "A Faery Song"

January's Enchantment

Oh, I know... this post is a couple weeks late. (sorry!) I just really wanted to show you what Niki and I exchanged with each other.
Niki sent three cute Christmas picks, tissues, and two golden pinecones along with the beautiful ornament that she made.

I'm not sure what this technique is called but it is very pretty! Niki did a great job! Thank you Niki!!! Here's what I sent...
Arizona dirt, candy, and the ornament in the handstamped & glittered box

I used a small pastry tin and glued a glittered pinecone from Arizona in it, moss, and an acorn charm hanging from it.

To Missy

"With fabric and yarn and beads and such
I created a fairy, I like her so much!
I gave her a name, one that would fit her
Then added a touch of magical glitter.
I packed her up with some things you should like
And mailed her today for an afternoon flight
She is now on her way, across the land
But I won't be happy 'til she's in your hands!"

fairy house.....

Look what Olivia and Andrew and I found at the base of our big Elm tree..Andrew says a "fairy tale" lives there...Olivia found a walnut shell and lined it with a feather to make a fairy bed...There is a tiny little sign that says "wish"...We think if you look at the sign and make one, it might come true...
