Owls for Niki

I'm pretty sure Niki has received her October package so I am going to go ahead and post what I sent.

Here is the basic package. I had to take a quick picture at night before I ran to the post office.

Niki said she collects rubber stamps so I added a few to her package. The two larger ones in the back were given to me awhile ago. I'm not a rubber stamper so they just sat in a box. The cute little owl one in the front I found at AC Moore. Hubby and I looked all through the store looking for owl items. Eventually we found the stamp and some fun little stickers in the scrapbooking section. I very seldom wander in that section. I'm not very good at scrapbooking. You can also see the little owl ornies I made.

I also knitted this owl cup cozie. It is supposed to be for a disposable coffee cup but it came out a bit loose. It fits nicely on several of my drinking glasses though.

I love making these friendship totes so I made one to hold all of Niki's goodies. Hope you enjoyed your package Niki.

Happy Halloween to those that celebrate. We came back early this morning from a short trip so we are just going to stay home and watch the live Ghost Hunters Halloween episode and relax before the new week/month starts tomorrow.

November's theme

8 tiny reindeer....Enchanted reindeer....need I say more?

November's ornament: A deer by any name...reindeer, doe, buck, fawn, stag, Rudolph...

November's challenge:
to create an enchanted holiday display for your home.

November's activity: drop off something for a local holiday drive.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name:
"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer, and Dixen!
"On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen!

"To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
"Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

December's theme.....ELF! (more on that December 1st!)

My enchanted banner.......

I love to make banners and was sure this would be a lot of fun....I used a mix of paper, vinyl and fabric plus trims....It was fun except for the part where my sewing machine was having fits....It is off to get a much needed tune up. If anyone abuses their sewing machine, it is me.......

O is for owls . . . oh yea!!!

Thank you Kerry! I love all my owls. Each time I opened one, there was another owl in the box. They are all so cute. I hated to see the bottom of the box!
There was the scissors/needle holder owl; the mug owl with m&m's; a bobble head owl with halloween candy; an owl spreader; owl printed cupcake papers; the owl banner challenge; and the owl ornament. See what I mean - never ending.
I added the fall with owls banner to my decorations for my party this weekend. You did a terrific job on the banner. I have a big collection of spreaders, but didn't have an owl - it's perfect. I actually do use them. And the scissors and needle holder will go to great use too. I've seen your post on your blog about them. And the owl pitcher with the little spout I will actually use it too.

And the owl ornament is such a cutie with his bead legs.
Thanks again Kerry. It was a super package!

My October Package Revealed...

I mailed off my October package to Gin today, so I was allowed to open the one I recieved from her a few days ago!!!
Cute... cute... cute is all I can say - Ok, very spoilt too:-)

She must have read my mind ...... pumpkins have been my Fall addiction this year!!! My Fall mantle is going to be an array of all sorts of pumpkins!!! She also sent me some Halloween napkins - perfect for our Cub Scout Halloween get together we're hosting on Friday night. A spool of pink ribbon - that color pink really makes me so happy!!!! 2 fat quarters ... love the little spider on the one. Look how cute that little pink owl ornie is, complete with his BIG glitzy eyes - LOVE him. The dish cloth is a work of art. I really admire people who can applique - my applique skills are just rubbish. Perhaps that will be my 2011 challenge to myself - to get applique mastered.

Gin, thanks for bringing a BIG smile to my day - I loved my package!!!

Thank You Gin...

Thank you so very much Gin for my swap package - I haven't opened it yet (my rule, until yours is in the mail).
I have a trip to the post office planned for tomorrow!!!
Watch this space - I'll reveal its lovely contents just as soon as I open it!!!

October's challenge

I stepped up to the challenge this month too!

Here is what I did for Halloween.

I got the templates off allsorts
here and just tied them to a couple of those creepy cloths from the dollar store.

close up of one of the words...

I like how it turned out and it was super easy to do.

On to the next one.
Since I don't have many decorations for Thanksgiving, I thought I'd make one of those gorgeous fabric swags I've seen on other people's blogs.

I used pinking shears and cut and cut and cut a ton of swatches from my fall colored fabrics. All those fat quarters people have sent me in swaps got used up! Note to anyone doing this...RIP the fabric...m
y hands were sore for DAYS after making it!
I didn't use a tutorial, but afterwords found several and they ALL suggested you rip the fabric *sigh*

I'm very pleased with it.

Right now I have it draped on a table but once Halloween is over, I'll put it up on the mantel through Thanksgiving.

a close up of the fabrics....

Now I just need some cool weather!

Owlly fun

Here is what I sent to my partner, Natalie, in Australia. They don't celebrate Halloween, so just wanted to make my owl fallish. I thought my ornie should be a feminine owl, and a sleepy looking one at that.

I know she won't recieve it for a bit, because it has to travel so far, but I had not posted for a while
and thought I should add a post for this month. So if you see this Natalie, sorry, it won't be a surprize. I also sent some homemade herbal soap that was very smelly. Your package should arrive with an amazing aroma.

I also made this other little owl key hider, holder thingy. I saw these in a book and thought they were cute. Just pull up the tie at the top and the key is hidden, pull down and it appears. Hope you all have a really fun Halloween, and an owlly good time!

I WAS UP FOR THE CHALLENGE ....

I loved this months challenge....
The idea of using banners to celebrate holidays was a new concept for me on moving to the US a couple of years ago. I liked them, but had never really given making one much thought ..... until the other day:-)

Here is what I came up with for an enchanted theme banner ..... I LOVE it:-) I made it using felt, jumbo ric rac and buttons.
In fact, I loved it so much, that I went ahead and made a Halloween themed one, to go in a Halloween Swap I'm taking part in. This is what this one looks like ...

I'm just as happy with this one -for this one I also used felt, as well as that trim with the pom pom's attached to it.

I can see many Christmas banners on the horizon!!! Thanks Val for encouraging us to do something new .... you'll never know, if you never try:-)

Just thought I'd post a picture.....

Tonight I cleaned up my art and sewing room and I looked at all my great Enchanted ornaments and decided to display them....I went in the orange, green and turquoise playroom and hung them on my purple tree....Obviously I am a girl who is not afraid of color....My tree is just ENCHANTING.....You gotta click on a close up....Really!

It's Here!

I am proudly showing my September extra prize. I was the winner and am loving it!
It's one of Val's mosaic creations. It will surely be a conversation piece on the serving line.

It is so darn cute! The mouse and trail of cheese just makes me smile every time I look at it.

I have never been a fan of the "mouse", but he has found a place in my home because of YOE.

Thank you Val.

My Meeces

Sorry for the horrible pics, I've been having a heck of a time with my camera ever since hubby dropped it while spelunking. I no longer have a working view screen, so it's like I'm using a traditional camera and I don't know what the pics will look like until they "develop."

I got my meeces from Kim the other day!! They are quite a pair of cuties too!! So precious!
She also included a Mary Englebreit apron, Mary Englebreit notecards, a bag of lavender, ornament hooks, a spool of ribbon, some green pipe cleaners and Starbursts. YUM!
Thank you Kim! The meeces are adorable and it is all so lovely!
